Um documentário…"Iraq for Sale"

The is no such beast as ‘depleted plutonium’. The substance I believe you’re after is ‘depleted uranium’, which is used in weapons projectiles and has been in the news recently over alleged health complications in Kosovo and the Persian Gulf.

Depleted uranium is produced during the recycling of spent fuel rods from nuclear reactors, during which plutonium, thorium and the most radioactive isotope of uranium (U235) are recovered for re-use in new fuel rods. The remaining ‘depleted’ uranium has very low levels of radioactivity – in fact, less than the original unrefined uranium oxide dug out of the ground to produce the fuel rods in the first place.

Running Linux on the PlayStation 3: More than a toy
Running Linux on the PlayStation 3: More than a toy

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) runs Linux®, but getting it to run well requires some tweaking. In this article, first in a series, Peter Seebach introduces the features and benefits of PS3 Linux, and explains some of the issues that might benefit from a bit of tweaking.

When Sony first announced that the PlayStation 3 would be able to run Linux natively, a great deal of excitement ensued. Early on, it was a bit of a challenge to get Linux natively installed. The supported installer ran a custom script that hand-mangled a Fedora Core 5 or 6 install DVD into a runnable system with a special PS3 kernel. People put in hours and hours of effort to get other systems, such as Ubuntu, working. Terrasoft’s Yellow Dog Linux, with an actual graphical installer that ran on the PS3, was the king of the hill.

The PlayStation 3 is capable of running Linux as well as other operating systems if installed on the console’s hard drive. Yellow Dog Linux[1] is the “official” Linux OS for PlayStation 3. Other distributions are compatible with the console as well. Any Linux Operating System has access to 6 of the 7 Synergistic Processing Elements [2], Sony implements a hypervisor restricting access to the RSX. IBM provides an introduction to programming parallel applications on the PlayStation 3.

Uma distro interessante para a PS3 é a Yellow Dog, que é a versão oficial, com a interessante decisão por parte deles de usarem o leve e belo E17, o descendente do Enlightenment.
