  • Todos os alunos da primária no Uruguai já possuem um laptop XO OLPC – durante os últimos dois anos cerca de 320000 estudantes e 18000 professores receberam um OLPC XO, ao contrário de cá, o Uruguai não foi contaminado pelo Cavalo de Tróia apresentado pela Intel e Microsoft exactamente para combater o OLPC, infelizmente por cá é o que se vê, os acordos entre o putativo engenheiro Sócrates e a microsoft bem como a ausência de concursos levou à escolha do classmate da intel carregado de software da microsoft. XO que até corre o google wave 🙂

Uruguay: Every primary school pupil now has an OLPC XO laptop – The H Open Source: News and Features

According to a BBC report, Uruguay is the first country to provide every school child aged between six and twelve with a laptop. Over the past two years 362,000 pupils and 18,000 teachers have reportedly been given access to the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) initiative’s XO model laptops as part of the country’s Plan Ceibal (“Conectividad Educativa de Informática Básica para el Aprendizaje en línea”) programme.

Windows 7 to hit consumers with known security problem

Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 7, is currently shipping with a potentially serious defect. Ahead of the product’s global launch on Thursday, Germany’s federal IT security agency (BSI) has issued a warning [1] about a high-risk vulnerability in the SMB2 protocol. This can be exploited over the network to shut down a computer with a Denial of Service (DoS) attack.

OpenBSD 4.6 released – The H Open Source: News and Features

Following nearly a three week delay, the OpenBSD project developers have announced the availability of version 4.6 of their free BSD UNIX-like operating system. Originally expected to be released on the 1st of October, OpenBSD 4.6 was delayed due to a number of “serious CD production problems. Version 4.6 is the 26th release on CD (27th via FTP) of OpenBSD and includes a number of new drivers, performance improvements and new features.

Firefox blocks, then unblocks, Microsoft add-on – The H Security: News and Features

On Friday, Mozilla announced it had placed the “Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant” add-on for Firefox on its list of blocked modules (blocklist). Mozilla’s Vice President of Engineering, Mike Shaver, said in his blog that Microsoft agreed to this plan and a tech bulletin released by Microsoft also advised users to disable the add-on.
